Unit Overview: Running Action Study
Running action has been the focus of home schooling during Term 2. We have used technology for beep test and recording ourselves when running. The recordings are a great tool for self assessment and growth. Our running unit has focused on the mechanics on what makes someone a good runner, from the perspective of improving speed and performance but also to prevent injury and making running more enjoyable. We have practiced what is required in a warm up and how it prepares the body for the activity its about to perform. When running we have gone over fundamentals of running action, which begins with head placement. Our line of sight, the position of the shoulders arms and hands. I have modeled correct body and postural alignment and most importantly foot strike and the range of motion our legs need to move through to generate maximum power with the least effort. To change or even modify ones action is difficult to begin with, but with persistence can be achieved. With so many sports, one of the key elements is running so it makes sense to make this part as efficient as possible.
